Visited SD for a couple of days and this is the first place we came to eat, and it was amazing! To start off, all the employees were so nice and attentive. The food was so good! We ordered a beefy rib dinner with 5 ribs and 2 small sides, a full rack baby back rib dinner with 2 small sides, and an order of small onion rings You come here, you gotta make a trip to Phil's.
Obviously you have to get their ribs but the sides are not something to skip out on. Their macaroni salad is like, mind blowing. It's a must! Considering I just had a beef rib at the Barbeque Pit last week that I was not able to get even one bite out of because of its toughness, this is a feat in and of itself.
Most beef ribs everywhere are too fatty and tough. I had a nice order of this on the side for just a few bucks more and it was enough to make a couple of sandwiches with.
It was missing the required spiciness and thus lacked flavor for me. As for his sides, I like to stick with the fries and the cole slaw. I used to detest cole slaw and would say please do not put it on my sandwich here and everywhere else they serve it that way.
I still ask for it on the side, so as not to make my bread soggy. I only wish it were a bit less sweet. I went to the San Marcos one soon after it opened as my son lives out that way and the food was consistent. They do have some of the friendliest staff anywhere. Love the lady at the podium in Point Loma, she keeps everyone in line and she is super warm and friendly.
Yeah, probably. Most likely for the Broham and his beef ribs. But ya just gotta hit them at the right time of day, which would be in between lunch and dinner…. Except for Phil. Or this!
