Students work with their advisors to complete a series of courses in the sport administration program and in a variety of other disciplines related to their academic interests and goals, and this includes: business administration, marketing, mass communication, higher education administration, interpersonal communication, and psychosocial foundations of sport.
All students in sport administration complete a culminating experience: thesis, project, or comprehensive exam. Students work closely with their advisor in developing a focus of study, selecting courses, and deciding whether to complete a thesis or master's project. The program is planned over two continuous years of study.
Here at BGSU, both our undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation COSMA , a specialized accrediting body that promotes and recognizes excellence in sport management education in colleges at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. For a spring and fall introductory internship, you must work 14 weeks beginning and ending with the regular semester. Getting enrolled in an introductory internship is easy.
Once you have pre-applied you may seek a site. The field experience coordinator will register you for the introductory internship once you have completed the pre-application process and confirmation form.

The capstone internship is 15 credits and you are required to work 40 hours per week for the entire semester. Capstone internships must coincide with the regular BGSU semester and be off campus.
Summer capstone interns will be required to be at the site immediately after spring semester ends. You must complete the capstone internship off campus and it may not be the same site as your introductory internship. The field experience coordinator will register you for the capstone internship once you have completed the pre-application process and confirmation form. We discourage students from taking any courses while completing the capstone internship. However, if you are completing another class while also doing the capstone internship, it must be online and students are not allowed to take over 18 credit hours.

They must complete at least 75 credit hours in order to be eligible to do a required internship experience that is worth 15 credit hours. Students gain valuable practical experience by doing fieldwork, practica, and internships.
All field experiences are conducted under the supervision of Sport Management faculty. International study opportunities provide students with outstanding academic and travel experiences. The Sport Management Alliance SMA is a student-led organization for sport management majors that provides opportunities to network, build leadership competency, and develop professional and time-management skills. The Gertrude M. Eppler Complex features state-of-the-art gymnasia, classrooms, teaching and research laboratories that individualize and optimize student learning.
Laboratory equipment includes advanced video cameras, recorders and video digitizing systems, AMTI force platforms, Cybex and Kin-Com Isokinestic Systems, physiological metabolic carts, computer-controlled treadmills and bicycle ergometers, bioimpedance analyzer, underwater weighing tank, electromyography system and advanced anatomical models. Completing the requirements for high school graduation is necessary for admission to BGSU, but finishing only minimal coursework leaves students unprepared for college.
